What song reminds you most of your childhood?

It would probably be Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith, “Never Say Never.” I used to love the Karate Kid movie, I was obsessed with it. I remember my dad had the DVD and we used to watch it all the time, then from searching on YouTube I discovered he did music too and I loved that song.

What song is the best representation of your hometown?

I don't know too much about my actual hometown [in Zimbabwe], but if I had to pick one for London... man, that's a lot of pressure! If I was introducing someone to London music, it has to be a song by Dave, but I don't feel like it can be something too lyrical. Maybe “Verdansk” to get them listening, and then they can go on their own journey of discovery. It would also be easy to say “UK Rap,” but maybe that's a bit cliché.

What songs remind you of traveling to a specific place?

It's actually going to be one of my songs, and it's an unreleased one. It's called “On Me,” and I think it's my favourite melodic song that I've made. A lot of people don't yet know that I have songs that I sing on too. I made “On Me” when I was in LA, and I don't know what type of spirit was in my body that day, but yo, that song is just a different vibe. Everytime I listen to it, it takes me back to LA and I can picture the whole scene. I want to relive that studio session so badly. I had recorded one song that night, and the second one wasn't even meant to happen. I just said “put on a beat.” I hear the beat and ten seconds later I was in the booth. Everyone was asleep, just me and the engineer awake at 3am recording the whole song, and I think it's the best song I've made so far.

What song do you wish you had written?

I wish I had made “Remember” by Asake, because it's just such a powerful song. The feeling that people get when they hear that song is the feeling I want to be able to give people.

What song would you want to play at your wedding?

Probably another song by Asake: “Wave,” featuring Central Cee. That's just a vibe.

What’s the best song to play at a house party?

I don't go to house parties bro. But if I had one song to set it off... oh, that's pressure! That might be the hardest question. Lil Baby, “Freestyle” goes off every time, so I'm going to say that.

You’re abducted by aliens, and when you wake up on the spaceship, they pass you the aux. What is the song you’re playing to convince them not to destroy Earth?

Adele, “Someone Like You.”
